EDF's Net-Zero Carbon Commitment
EDF Heysham is an example of a power station supported by it's local community. Heysham brought 1500 jobs to the area and has contributed to local life by introducing a nature reserve on it's footprint and supporting the local school with ecology lessons. While alone these actions don't have a huge impact on climate change, they counteract the impact of emissions caused by the power station build and exemplify EDF's commitment to it's net-zero goals. While nuclear energy is not renewable, EDF claim it is a necessary step to rapidly decelerate our carbon emissions and stop global warming. Heysham will be decommissioned when EDF can sustain adequate energy supplies from new renewable technology.
